Many of my close friends understand my ability to lose things, mostly important things like my wallet or my keys. I purchased my last two vehicles with criteria that included a keypad on the door so that I could just leave my keys in the car, reducing my risk of losing them like so many times in the past. Just to give you an idea...
When I returned from a 2-week trip to Egypt last September, I accidently left my wallet in a Newark, NJ taxicab. I can assure you this is one of the last places you want to lose your wallet, and it was never seen by me again. Multiple state-issued ID cards, credit and debit cards, and some cash were that particular driver's tip that night.
Fast forward to December 30th when I picked up my bike from the Big Pine Bicycle Center and apparently left my new wallet on the bumper of my truck as I pulled off into the sunset. I didn't notice it was missing until the next day, which was New Year's Eve, and figured it was long gone by then. I went out to celebrate the new year in Key West that night with my girlfriends, had a spare credit card to use, was able to convince all the door guys I was clearly over the age of 21, and we had a great time!
The next day, I was recovering on the couch and scrolling on my phone when I received a message from someone by the name of Shane asking me if I had lost my wallet. Not only did he find it laying on the side of the road by a gas station on Big Pine Key, but he tracked me down on Facebook and made the effort to return it to me! Nothing was missing and I was SOOOO grateful for his kindness.
Thank you, Shane, for doing the right thing and for asking nothing in return! You definitely set the tone for what's going to be a great year :)
On this note, I should also tell you all that two years ago, I had my driver's license in my back pocket and also accidently lost it walking down the street from Island Dogs Bar in Key West. A good person picked it up and turned it in to The World Famous Conch Tour Train Company and one of the employees found me on Facebook and immediately messaged me! I was able to circle back around and pick it up from the service desk. So, basically what I'm saying is that if you are going to lose your stuff, try to do it in the Florida Keys because you'll have a much greater chance of getting it back!
